HBA of Colorado Springs Annual Awards Dinner Honors Community Leaders
COLORADO SPRINGS — March 12, 2026 — The Housing & Building Association of Colorado Springs (HBA) honored four awardees at its Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, March 11, at Flying Horse Resort. The reception was presided over by 2026 HBA President Loren Moreland, Vice President at Classic Homes, who recognized awardees for their dedication and service to the local building industry and community. Attendees included County Commissioners, City Council members, local officials, and over 120 HBA Members.
The honorees include:

Inaugural Community Partner of the Year – Brett Lacey, Colorado S
prings Fire Marshall, Retired
Brett Lacey served with the Colorado Springs Fire Department for more than thirty years and was the Fire Marshal of Colorado Springs beginning in 1998. His involvement with the HBA was strengthened after the Waldo Canyon Fire, when he worked with the association to improve the Colorado Springs Structure Manual with a goal to enhance wildfire resilience and maintain housing attainability. Brett’s longstanding career and partnership with the HBA made him an obvious choice for the first Community Partner Award. His leadership, dedication to the City of Colorado Springs, and forward-thinking work have helped strengthen the local building industry and improve community resiliency.
Associate Member of the Year – Nicole Schanel, Vice President of Matrix Design Group.
A Colorado Springs native, Nicole Schanel is the Project Manager and Engineer of Record for several “City for Champions” projects as well as TrueNorth Commons. An active member of the HBA, Nicole has served on several committees and subcommittees, including as President of the HBA Cares Board of Directors. She also completed the Emerging Leaders Program, which educates and encourages HBA members to become more involved in the advocacy, partnerships, and influential work of the Housing & Building Association. Nicole currently serves on the HBA Board of Directors and the Public Policy Council.
Builder Member of the Year – Joe Loidolt, Vice President of Classic Homes
Joe Loidolt has been a member of the HBA and part of the Classic Homes team for more than 20 years, quickly demonstrating strong leadership within the industry. He served as HBA President in 2014 and volunteered his time and expertise on the Wildfire Resiliency Code Board. Joe also helped form Careers in Construction Colorado, a nonprofit dedicated to preparing students for careers in the construction industry. In addition, he continues to serve on several boards and committees that support the future of the building industry in the region.
Industry Person of the Year – Mark Reyner, Owner Wetherbee Drywall
Mark Reyner has been a member of the HBA for more than 20 years. A Colorado Springs native, Mark is also connected to the community through family legacy—his grandfather was a co-founder of the Pikes Peak Range Riders, an organization on whose board Mark has served two terms. Within the HBA, he has served as President, on the Executive Committee, and on several committees including the NAHB Remodelers Council. Like all of this year’s winners, Mark demonstrates a strong passion for both the building industry and his community. Mark Reyner is also a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Program.
