Remodelers Council: The Mike and Karina Schroeder Project

Before

After
This project came to the Remodelers Council through HBA Cares.
Karina’s 17-year-old son suffered from spina bifida and was confined to a wheelchair with 24-hour nursing assistance. Bathing him in the tub/shower was becoming incredibly difficult and dangerous, as she had fallen resulting in 10 stiches in her head, and Adrian had suffered injuries as well. Karina had struggled to find anyone who could help and especially with the financial piece because their insurance would not cover the cost of the remodel, nor were there any available programs throughout the city or state.
Two Remodeler’s Council members went out to meet with Karina Schroeder and assess what was needed. After reviewing the project, it was determined right then that one way or another, this project is getting done.
A project plan was created, council members were asked for their help with materials, labor, or other expertise; a production schedule was developed, and we were ready to go.
Once the project started it flowed like clockwork. Home protection was established, deconstruction and clean up was completed quickly, plumbing and framing came next, followed by drywall and the Onyx shower system was installed. All of this was completed in the first week. The following week included installing a larger entry door with articulating hinges, painting walls, trim, and the door; plumbing trim and final cleaning. All told the project was turned over to the family in 11 working days.
The project value was in excess of $10,000.00, all of which was donated by the HBA/Remodelers Council members.
Karina and Mike were so grateful to the Remodelers Council and the HBA. Karina shared tears of joy that she could finally care for Adrian without the fear of hurting him or herself.
This project could not have happened without the support and commitment of our members:
