The Colorado Springs Housing & Building Association advocates for policies that make housing more attainable, support local jobs, and preserve the opportunity for future generations to achieve the American Dream of homeownership.
Every new home built supports far more than just the construction industry. Homebuilding creates and sustains thousands of jobs across our region: from framers, electricians, plumbers, concrete workers, and roofers to engineers, architects, suppliers, manufacturers, lenders, real estate professionals, and small business owners. A strong housing market means a strong local economy.
Unfortunately, excessive fees, unnecessary regulations, and costly code requirements continue to drive up the price of housing. While growth must be planned responsibly and communities must remain safe, policies should be based on demonstrated need and practical outcomes, not mandates that make housing less affordable for working families.
The reality is that every added cost matters. National housing research shows that a $1,000 increase in the price of a median-priced new home prices approximately 156,000 American households out of the market. These are families who could otherwise qualify for a mortgage and achieve homeownership but are prevented from doing so because of additional costs imposed on housing. Whether those costs come from excessive fees, unnecessary regulations, or burdensome requirements, they ultimately make it harder for working families to buy a home.
The HBA works every day to ensure that government policies strike the right balance: protecting public health and safety while avoiding unnecessary costs that are ultimately passed on to homebuyers and renters. By advocating for reasonable regulations, predictable development processes, and fair fees, we fight every day to keep housing attainable for more families.
We believe homeownership remains one of the most powerful paths to financial stability, wealth creation, and stronger communities. The next generation deserves the same opportunity to buy a home, raise a family, and build a future that previous generations enjoyed.
For these reasons, the CSHBA Political Action Committee carefully evaluates candidates and supports those who understand the importance of housing affordability, economic opportunity, property rights, and smart and responsible growth. Our endorsed candidates have demonstrated a commitment to policies that help keep housing attainable, support the construction workforce and related industries, and ensure that future generations have the same opportunity to achieve homeownership that has long been a cornerstone of the American Dream.
The candidates endorsed by the HBA PAC are leaders we believe will work to strengthen our local economy, protect housing opportunities, and keep the dream of homeownership within reach for Colorado families.
