The Southern Region Census Office serving El Paso and Teller Counties is now open on the southeast side of Colorado Springs. The office is located on South Academy Blvd and Hancock Expressway in the Mission Trace Shopping Center.

The office will support and deploy the 2020 Census operation in El Paso and Teller counties as well as southern Colorado (stretching from the Kansas border to the western slope, and all the way down to the CO/NM border). The office will house the managers, staff, materials, and equipment needed to support the hundreds of Census Bureau employees conducting local census operations, including following up with households that do not respond, counting residents living in group housing, and other enumeration operations to ensure a complete count of our population in southern Colorado.

The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.

The Constitution: Article 1, Section 2, mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every ten years. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790.

The Pikes Peak Area Complete County Committee is comprised of over 30 people representing a broad range of interest areas across El Paso and Teller Counties, whose mission is to create awareness on how important it is for every person to complete the census document. The linked informational presentation is to aid you in understating just how important Census numbers are to each person.

The City of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Area Complete Count Committee have free 2020 Census promotional materials available to encourage people to complete their 2020 Census document. They have 11×17 posters, stickers, small cards, bookmarks, ink pens, bags, cups, notebooks, and post-it notes that were purchased with DOLA grant funds.
